Travelling from Bahrain

Visa for Bahraini passports

Bahraini passport holders need a visa for India, and they can apply online for an e-Visa before travel. India offers visa on arrival only to a few other nationalities, not Bahrain. The 30 day e-Tourist visa allows multiple entries, and the 1 year and 5 year versions allow up to 180 days in India per calendar year.

Medical visa

India has a dedicated e-Medical visa for patients. It allows multiple entries for up to one year from arrival, and it cannot be extended. You need a letter on the Indian hospital's letterhead with your name, nationality, passport number and expected admission date.

Flights from Bahrain

Gulf Air flies direct from Bahrain to Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru. The flight to Mumbai takes about 4 hours, and the other cities take about 3.5 to 4.5 hours. Check the current schedule with Gulf Air before booking.

Time difference

India is 2.5 hours ahead of Bahrain (India Standard Time, UTC+5:30). India does not use daylight saving time.

Language

Hindi and English are the official languages of India's central government, and each region also has its own language, such as Telugu in Hyderabad and Tamil in Chennai. English is widely spoken in international patient departments.

Currency

The currency is the Indian rupee (INR).

Good to know

Most e-Visa applications take 3 to 5 working days, so apply only after the hospital has sent its letter. Leave enough time before your planned travel date.

Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad have their main monsoon rains from about June to September, and Chennai gets most of its rain from about October to December. Plan transport and pack for the season.

Checked 4 October 2026. Rules change: your case manager confirms visa requirements for your passport before anything is booked.
