Orthopaedics, rehabilitation, cancer care, plastic surgery and health check-ups in Istanbul and Bursa, planned from Bahrain with a Saleem doctor on your case.
Before you travel to Turkey
- Patients go there for
- Cities
- Istanbul and Bursa
- Partner hospitals
- 11 hospitals and clinics
- Arabic interpreter
- Arranged by your case manager when you need one
Travelling from Bahrain
- Visa for Bahraini passports
Bahraini citizens with an ordinary passport can enter Turkey without a visa and stay up to 90 days in any 180 day period. Holders of official Bahraini passports need a visa.
- Medical visa
Turkey issues a medical treatment visa through its embassies, applied for online at visa.gov.tr, so your case manager checks with the Turkish Embassy in Manama whether you need it for a short treatment. Patients who need to stay longer than 90 days can apply inside Turkey for a short-term residence permit for treatment, set to the length of the treatment.
- Flights from Bahrain
Gulf Air and Turkish Airlines fly direct from Bahrain to Istanbul Airport daily, and Pegasus flies to Sabiha Gokcen Airport on the Asian side, with a flight time of about 4 to 4.5 hours. There are no direct flights to Bursa, so patients fly to Istanbul and continue by road or ferry, usually about 2 to 3 hours.
- Time difference
Turkey has the same time as Bahrain (UTC+3). Turkey stopped changing its clocks in 2016, so the time is the same all year.
- Language
The official language is Turkish. International patient departments in private hospitals usually have English-speaking staff and often Arabic interpreters, but this varies by hospital.
- Currency
The currency is the Turkish lira (TRY). Cards are widely accepted in Istanbul and Bursa, and money exchange offices are easy to find.
- Good to know
Turkey is a Muslim-majority country, so halal food and prayer facilities are easy to find in Istanbul and Bursa. Summers are warm and fairly humid, around 28 to 30 C in July and August, and winters are cool and rainy.
Checked 4 October 2026. Rules change: your case manager confirms visa requirements for your passport before anything is booked.
